What kinds of service can Chief provide for me?
We offer you wide range of brokerage service, including brokerage services for all Hong Kong listed stocks, stock options, index futures and options. You may perform your transactions via telephone or Internet.

What types of trading accounts are offered by Chief?
We offer individual, corporate and joint accounts. In the mean time, you can choose among cash account, margin account and custodian account to customize your needs.

Cash account
You can trade Hong Kong listed stocks by opening a cash account. All outstanding balances have to be settled by cash, by cheque or by cashier's cheque within two trading days (T+2) after the transaction.

Custodian account
You can trade Hong Kong listed stocks by opening a custodian account. The amount of transactions including commissions and other related expenses will be debited in the custodian account. You have to inform us by phone or by fax the pay-in slip after depositing the fund. Buy orders can be placed once we have confirmed the deposit.

Margin account
You can trade Hong Kong listed stocks by opening a margin account. Depending on the margin limit of the marginable securities, the transaction may not need to be settled in full amount before the settlement day.

Futures and options account
You can trade stock futures, index futures and options by opening a futures and options trading account with Chief Commodities Limited.

Stock options account
You can trade stock options by opening a stock options account.

Does Chief set minimum deposit requirement for account opening?
Chief does not have any minimum deposit requirement, monthly fees and storage fees for stocks on all accounts. Also, you can open an account free-of-charge at any time.

How can I open an account with Chief?
If you would like to open an account with Chief, please bring along the following documents and come to our head office or branches in person:

i. Individual/Joint account

  • Hong Kong Identity card or passport of the account holder(s)
  • Address proof dated within the latest three months e.g. bills from public utilities, bank statement
ii. Corporate account
  • Certified copy of Memorandum & Articles of Associations.
  • Board resolution(s) to open an account with Chief and the appointment of authorized person(s) to operate the account.
  • Certified copy of Certificate of Incorporation
  • Certified copy of valid Business Registration Certificate
  • Certified copy of the latest audited financial report
  • Certified copies of Hong Kong Identity Card or passport of all directors and the authorized person(s).
Cash account holder(s) can place orders by phone after opening the account, Internet trading account holder{s} can trade via the internet trading platform after receiving our login and confirmation passwords within 2-3 working days.

Note: Before you can start operating the account, enough cash balance has to be maintained to settle the first transaction.

When can I commence trading after depositing the fund?
After you perform fund deposit into our bank accounts, you should notify us by fax at 25216893 the pay-in slip on which account number and account name should be marked clearly. Or, you can call us at 2009180 for confirmation. Once we have confirmed receipt of your fund, you can go start trading.

How can I withdraw capital from my custodian or index futures and options accounts?
If you want to withdraw capital from your custodian or futures and options accounts, you can inform us at 25009180. You are required to inform us before 1:00pm on each trading day, otherwise, your fund withdrawal will be effected on the next trading day.

In general, we will credit the amount of withdrawal into your designated bank account. You may also choose to collect the cheque in person at our head office.

Can I sell physical stocks through the Internet trading platform?
No, customers who would like to sell physical stocks through the Internet trading platform have to deposit the share certificate(s) prior to trading. If customers want to sell the physical stocks immediately, you have to place the order through our trading hotline at 25009118 and the physical stocks must be delivered to our head office for settlement by the next trading day.

If I only open an internet trading account, can I still place orders through phone?
Yes, you can still call our trading hotline 25009118(Securities Trading) or 25009128 (Futures & Options Trading) to place your orders. However, different commissions will be charged accordingly.

Is it safe to trade on Chief's internet trading platform?
In order to provide you with the highest security Internet trading platform services, we have installed the most advanced firewall to safeguard our system. In addition, customers' personal data and web information are stored separately in order to avoid data leakage.

How can I change my password?
If you would like to change your passwords, simply log in to the system and choose the "Change Password" button. Then, select the type of password you decide to change. After inputting the current and new passwords, press the "Submit" button. The password will be replaced. In order to protect and secure your interest, we suggest you change your account passwords regularly.

What can I do if I forget my password?

How can I apply for real-time quote services?
Customers can subscribe the real-time quote service provided by e-finet at $290 per month or service plans by other information providers.

What are the best settings for browsing the web pages?
We recommend the following settings:

We recommend using IE 5.01 or above version for viewing the pages. If you use English version Microsoft windows and would like to read Chinese content in the web, please install a Chinese-reading software. e.g. NJSTAR or RICHWIN.

What are enhanced limit order, limit order, at-auction order, at-auction limit order and market order?
Enhanced limit order: Order will only be executed at a specified price or one better spread;
Limit order: Order will only be executed at a specified price;
Market order: Order will be executed at the best available price in the current market;
At-auction order: Order will be executed at the final IEP in the pre-opening session. It will be cancelled automatically if it is not being executed. Remember that at-auction orders get higher priority than at-auction limit orders during order matching process;
At-auction limit order: Order will be executed at a specified or better price during the pre-opening session and will be placed as a limit order in the market after the pre-opening session if it has not been executed.

When can I place my orders in the internet trading system?
You can place your orders at any time during the trading hours; the orders will be put into the market immediately. Orders that are placed after 5:00 pm will be placed sequentially in the next trading period.

How long will the orders be valid?
Orders will only be valid in the continuous trading hour, outstanding orders will be cancelled. Orders placed beyond the trading hour will be put into the market sequentially in the next trading period.

How can I amend or cancel the orders?
If you desire to amend or cancel the orders, find out the particular order in the order book and then select amend or cancel. After that, you have to input the trading password to confirm. Only unmatched orders can be amended or cancelled.

What will happen if the order is only partially filled?
If the order is partially filled, the purchased shares or the remained outstanding quantities will be deposited into your account. The orders will not carry forward to the next trading period.

How can I monitor the status of the orders?
After placing the orders, you can view the status of the orders in "Today's Transactions" in the order book.

Why my order is being rejected by the trading system?
Your order may be rejected due to the following reasons:
1. the specified price of the order you inputted is extremely deviates from the market price (8 spreads).
2. In case of a sell order transaction you either do not have that particular stock on hand or insufficient quantities for selling. On the contrary, if the transaction amounts exceed your credit limit nay result in rejection to a buy orders transaction.

Can I deposit physical stocks into my account with Chief?
Yes. You just have to fill in the "Standard form of transfer" and deliver to us together with the share certificate(s) of the stock during office hours.

How can I withdraw physical stock from my account?
You just have to fill in the form "Request for Securities Withdrawal", stating the name and quantity of securities you intend to withdraw and returning us the form. You can collect the physical stock within one to two working days.

What is Daily Independent Auditing System?
To provide extra guarantee for clients, a Daily Independent Auditing System has been executed since 2002. The CHAN&CHAN has been appointed as the independent auditor to perform DAILY AUDIT of deposited assets of our client. The audited report will be posted in our office and sent to our clients at the end of each month.
